Long Term Absence: a Short Guide for Employers by Liz Watt
Where an employee has been off through long term sickness absence, the employer should have policies in place in order to ensure that the staff member can return to work. It is usually a good idea to arrange a meeting between the employer and employee to check that the employee is ready to return to work and how best to support this. It is also worth checking whether any reasonable adjustments need to be made, especially if the long term absence was as a result of an injury and the employee is now considered disabled.
If you have a staff member who has been off work for a long period of time and want to discuss how best to deal with either a phased return or instigating a dismissal procedure, or if you are an employee who has been off work for a long period of time and now want to discuss your options, please contact Liz Watt on 01905 900 919 or email her via Liz@bradleyhayneslaw.co.uk.
